Winter in Lesotho

Help Lesotho Children

I know that things are tough…but, winter is coming to Lesotho soon! Imagine walking miles to school in the snow with no shoes or shoes with huge holes.

I am challenging you, the Thought for the Day readers, our website visitors, and Facebook friends to a Lesotho Shoe Challenge!

I leave April 14. My goal is to raise funds for the purchase of 400 pairs of shoes for the orphans and vulnerable children of Lesotho. As of today…funds for 6 pairs of shoes have been donated.

Will you prayerfully consider making a $20 donation for a new pair of shoes for the least of the least in Lesotho?

A Promise Made! A Promise Kept!

A Promise MadeDuring our trip to Lesotho in 2007 we visited a primary school. We were able to help 10 children with school uniforms. All the children wear specific uniforms to school.

It was at that time that I made a promise to Violet (far left) to return and help more children. She asked if I could come back in a few months. I knew that I could not promised to return in a few months…but promised her that I would remember the children…and that I would return.

In 2008 I kept my promise. Anchor Your Life was able to assist 125 children at the school. In 2009 we helped close to 450 children which was absolutely wonderful.

But, as I looked at the window, I saw literally hundreds of children in the courtyard looking in. They had needs, yet received nothing.

What motivates me to return again to help? It’s fueled by my desire to A Promise Madeextend the love of Christ to more and more children.

I will return to Lesotho on April 14 with the hopes of helping 100′s of children. Will you consider assisting us in our ministry to the little ones in Lesotho?

Extending His love,
Marji “Mike” Kruger

Under the Weather

The Flu Hits!

I’ve spent this week in bed. After picking up the flu last Saturday night, I have felt miserable. Simply terrible. Fever. Sore throat. Consistent cough. And, worst of all, overwhelming fatique. Surprisingly I’ve had very little appetite. I need to consciously decide to eat. On Sunday, I tried to make some “comfort” food that sounded good. But, it was such an effort to pull together a meal that I gave up and gathered some food from the freezer. Day after day I know I have to eat to keep my energy up…but I barely have enough energy to get from the bedroom to the kitchen. And yet, I have very little to complain about when I start considering that I will be living in Lesotho for 2 weeks in November.

  • I have food in a refrigerator and freezer. In Lesotho only 7 percent of households have access to electricity.
  • I take for granted the number of boxes of cereal that I have in the pantry. Entire households in Lesotho eat on less than $1 a day. $1 a day!
  • I have the convenience of warm running water for a shower and a toilet close by. 12% of Lesotho has access to running water. Many women line up early in the morning to collect water for the day.
  • I have excellent medical care and medicine when I need it. Except for this week, I feel pretty healthy. In Lesotho, over 1/3 of the adult population has AIDS.
  • I enjoy interacting with my friends’ children, but have few responsibilities with them. If I lived in Lesotho, I would most likely be taking care of the children of friends or neighbors. Nearly 1 of 3 children live as orphans.

I’ve been doing my fair amount of complaining about the flu. But, in all reality, I have nothing to complain about. I will get well. I will visit Lesotho in 2 weeks. And I will do all that I can do to raise awareness of the tremendous needs in Lesotho.

Remember, I, we, can make a difference for God’s Kingdom by sharing His love and His resources with one life at a time. I’m adding some pictures at the bottom to give you a few more faces of the ones we’ve come to love in Lesotho.
