In the mid-1990s a 1st century street was fully uncovered. It dates to the decades prior to Jerusalem's destruction by the Romans in 70 A.D. It is likely that
the street dates back to Christ's time. It is now covered with massive stones from the wall that were pushed down by the Romans. Only a portion of the street has been cleared by the
excavators.
