After the fall of Jerusalem in 135 A.D., Tiberias became the center of rabbinic
learning. It was here that the Mishnah (for many Jews the Mishnah is second only to the Hebrew Scriptures) was completed in about A. D. 200. It was also in
Tiberias that the Jerusalem Talmud (a rabbinic compilation of books and commentaries) was completed in about 400 A.D.
