. . .all things were created by him and for him. (NIV) Colossians 1:16
I walked by a swampy area, out of the corner of my eye, I saw an alligator floating in the water. Alligators are a fairly common sight in Florida. Although alligators can run at speeds of up to 10 to 15 miles per hour (albeit only for a very short distance), I felt safe on the road up an embankment. But, then my curiosity got the best of me. . .I wanted to see if I could get this guy’s attention. I picked up a small pebble and threw it into the pond. The alligator never moved! It didn’t even flinch. He just continued to float and sleep oblivious to the world around him. The pebble in the pond never caught his attention.
How is God throwing pebbles into your pond to get your attention? Many times we float along in life oblivious to God’s promptings. We walk through life, half asleep, never wanting our routines disrupted. God not only can disrupt our floating through life, He has the right to do so! We are not here on earth for our convenience or to have our needs met or for our own purposes. Rather, we are here for God’s Kingdom purposes. The next time God throws a pebble into your pond to get your attention respond to His promptings.
By the way, I passed the alligator a half hour later and he still hadn’t moved an inch.
