A Promise Made! A Promise Kept!

A Promise MadeDuring our trip to Lesotho in 2007 we visited a primary school. We were able to help 10 children with school uniforms. All the children wear specific uniforms to school.

It was at that time that I made a promise to Violet (far left) to return and help more children. She asked if I could come back in a few months. I knew that I could not promised to return in a few months…but promised her that I would remember the children…and that I would return.

I kept my promise. Since 2007 Anchor Your Life has assisted 100’s of children with shoes, school uniforms, clothing, and food.

What motivates me to return again to help? It’s fueled by my desire to extend the love of Christ to more and more children.

Defend. Maintain. Rescue.

“DEFEND the cause of the weak and fatherless; MAINTAIN the rights of the poor and oppressed; RESCUE the weak and needy…” – (Psalm 82:3-4)

DSC_0251It is from these words in scripture that we find one of God’s greatest calls – the call to look after the poor and needy. And it is from these word’s that we have found our mission, to provide for the physical and spiritual needs of the children in Lesotho and South Africa…Would you help us as we seek to provide the blankets, scarves, gloves and hats which will help keep these children warm over the upcoming winter months (May-September) in South Africa.

Adorable Little Ones

We visited a pre-school yesterday. The children were precious. We were greeted with warm smiles, hugs, and a few confused faces.

They sang for us. We played games with them. Then received their new jackets.

Volunteers run the pre-school giving back to the community by caring for the ones who otherwise would have no where else to go.

Lesotho Shoe Challenge!

Lesotho Shoe ChallengeI know that needs abound around us…but, I am challenging you, the Thought for the Day readers, our website visitors, and Facebook friends to a Lesotho Shoe Challenge!

Lesotho is a small country surrounded by South Africa that has been ravaged by poverty and AIDS.

I leave April 14. As of today funds for 235 pairs of shoes have been donated. My goal is to raise funds for the purchase of 400 pairs of shoes for the orphans and vulnerable children of Lesotho.

Will you prayerfully consider making a $20 donation for a new pair of shoes for the least of the least in Lesotho?

Winter in Lesotho

I know that things are tough…but, winter is coming to Lesotho soon! Imagine walking miles to school in the snow with no shoes or shoes with huge holes.

Meeting Needs

Our visit to Mafeteng went great. We estimated that over 300 people gathered to meet and greet us.
The children preformed traditional songs and dances. Renee even tried to keep up with the girls in some dance on their knees.
The matriarchs of the village organized the distribution of shoes and clothing beginning first with the orphans, then proceeding to the children of single parents who are not working.

We gave the matriarchs Sesotho Bibles and asked them to promise us that they would read to the children. The highlight for me was when 3 teenagers asked for Bibles so that they could grow in their faith.

A Special Heart for Those in Need

We met Me’ Rose during our first visit to Lesotho in February 2007. We became fast friends and she became instrumental in our Lesotho ministry. Me’ Rose has such a big heart. She’s always watching for how she can help others.

Somehow she seems to know about the most urgent needs in communities, schools and churches…and she gets things done. God has equipped her with an invaluable gift of administration. Without fail, when we arrive, she has color coded lists of children’s needs, has arranged for the purchases of clothing, food and supplies, and coordinates our visits. Most importantly she shares with the children and adults why we’re helping. She boldly tells them of the love of Christ and the hope of eternal life through Him. Me’ Rose does not want to miss the opportunity to reflect God’s love to them. She understands that just as the moon refects the sun’s light, she is to be reflector of Son’s light.

We always spend a lot of time with Me’ Rose. During this trip we’ll be visiting her home and village again. I’ll be eager to see how the children have grown in stature…and spiritually over the past 9 months. We’ll laugh. We’ll share. We’ll listen and we’ll learn.

Me’ Rose is a great encouragement as I watch her live for Christ. Her sacrificial service challenges me to give more. Her love for God spurs me on to go deeper in my relationship with Him. And her smile brings me joy! I’m seeking to refect Him. How about you?
