Isaiah beautifully describes the love that God has for His people in Isaiah 40:11 as he writes: “He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart. . .” The arm of God which was a symbol of power (in verse 10), now tenderly and lovingly protects His sheep in His strong arms, nothing can harm or come near the sheep.
Sheep will scatter, especially in a storm. It is the Shepherd who gathers them together. . .He carries them in His arms, close to His heart, keeping them safe and under His watchful eye. The Shepherd provides nourishment and protection for His sheep. . .He tends their wounds so that they can heal. . .He searches for those who are lost. . .and He cherishes them throughout their lives.
It is our Shepherd who is wooing you to Himself. The One who wants more than anything to gather you into His arms. . .seek to feel His warm embrace. . .to experience His strength. . . and to hear His heartbeat.
Think of it. . .when you’re afraid. . .when you’re lonely. . . when you can’t go on. . .when you can’t take another step, He picks you up for the rest of the way and carries you close to His heart to listen to His heartbeat. Why don’t you let your Good Shepherd gather you into His arms today!?!
