But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. (NIV) Isaiah 53:5
Christmas is full of symbols. Holly, the Christmas evergreen plant, originally reminded people that some forms of life continued through the winter, while most of nature appeared to have gone to sleep or was dead. The holly’s white flower has been interpreted as the purity of Mary, the mother of Jesus. The plant’s prickly leaves were thought to represent the crown of thorns placed on Jesus’ head when he was crucified. And its red berries reminded people of the drops of blood He shed on the cross and the promise of new life to come when he rose from the dead.
All of us who have a relationship with Jesus Christ have the promise of new life, life eternal. . . so enjoy today. . . enjoy every moment knowing that God loved you enough to send His Son to die for you!
