“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? (NIV) Luke 6:46
During the time that Jesus lived, to call anyone “Lord” was to admit that an allegiance was owed. To repeat the address a second time added extra emphasis. But, remember words alone are no substitute for obedience!
Where is your allegiance? When the chips are down and it really counts, in what do you trust? your security? job? money? husband’s career? surroundings? friends? God?
Where is your allegiance? If we were to audit your checkbook and credit card account what would it reveal about your allegiance?
Where is your allegiance? When others are living their lives the way they want to, how is your allegiance to Jesus Christ lived out? When others are raising their kids in a more permissive nature, is your allegiance to God seen in the standards you set for your family? When others bend the rules a little, how does your allegiance to Christ show itself in your decision-making and behavior?
Allegiance to Christ is seen in being obedient to His Word. . . that is if you know His Word!
