Worship Our Eternal King

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. (NIV) Isaiah 6:1

There is one guarantee in life, someday each one of us will see the eternal King – we will meet Him face to face at the foot of His throne. Isaiah sees the eternal King, Jesus (John 12:41) seated on a throne which is a symbol of royal authority.

He is seated on a throne, high and exalted because He is superior to all things! Although many today may not acknowledge Him as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, we know that there will be a time when kings and princes will see Him and bow down, and . . .’every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.’ (Romans 14:11)

He is seated on the throne because He reigns. He is a ruler with power over death. He is the Creator of all things – the stars, the moon, the mountains, the rivers, the land and the seas, all the creatures, including you and me.

He is seated on the throne and is worthy of worship. The seraphs (angelic or heavenly beings) are stationed above the throne of God, calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” (Isaiah 6:3)

Just as the seraphs worshipped God, we are to worship Him. Worship is what brings us into God’s presence. When do you make time to worship? How do you worship God? Is your life a reflection of your worship? When will you become a person of worship?

Who Owns What?

Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. (NIV) 1 Chronicles 29:11

God made two great lights– the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. (NIV) Genesis 1:16

. . .for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine. (NIV) Psalm 50:10-11

‘The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the LORD Almighty. (NIV) Haggai 2:8

“To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his. (NIV) Job 12:13

The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; (NIV) Psalm 24:1

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (NIV) James 1:17

Who owns what? God owns it all. . . everything! There is nothing that exists that is not His. And because He owns it all, will you join me in praising Him. . .

In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand. (NIV) 1 Chronicles 29:11-14

God’s Works Are Great!

Great are the works of the LORD; they are studied by all who delight in them. (NAS) Psalm 111:2

All of God’s works are great! Whether big or small – they are great in design, great in size, great in number, great in scope, great in excellence! His works are to be remembered. . . to encourage us, to inspire us, to give us a hope and a future, to be passed down to our children, to confirm God’s lovingkindness and faithfulness. He looks after our daily needs, He is faithful to every promise He has made to us, and every work He performs is done in truth and uprightness. But, God’s greatest work is seen on the cross when He sent redemption to His people. . . as He provided payment for our sins so that we can live with Him in eternity!

Won’t you praise Him now for the great works He has done in your life? Every moment is a work of God, whether He is providing for you, working in you and around you, or giving you your very life! Stop now and make a list of the great works of God and allow your heart to overflow in praise for Him!

Our God, the Great King

Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised. . . (NAS) Psalm 48:1

The Great King of the universe – the sovereign, powerful, glorious Creator of all things – chose to reside with His people (the Israelites) in His city. And because of God’s presence, the city is described as beautiful and “the joy of the whole earth” (Psalm 48:2). The citizen’s of God’s city not only enjoy His presence, but also His protection (v.3), love (v.9) and righteousness (v.10). This Great King is Lord . . and He alone is worthy of human praise.

How have you experienced God as sovereign in your life? When was the last time God expressed His love to you? How have you seen God’s righteousness prevail in your life? When was the last time that you praised God specifically for His sovereignty? His love for you? His righteousness? Why not take the time now to praise God for who He is. . . for He alone is worthy of your praise!

Equality with God?

“You shall have no other gods before me.” (NIV) Exodus 20:3

The first commandment is pretty easy to understand. There can only be one God, one true God the all knowing, all powerful, all present, creator of the earth. Doesn’t it seem ridiculous when we think we can actually be God? If the truth be told, many of us spend the better part of our lives trying to be God instead of just letting God be God. We manipulate, we question, we judge and we try to control people and events in an effort to make things happen our way…or at least making things happen the way we think it should.

When have you tried to manipulate a situation so that the outcome is what you desire? How do you try to control people or events so that the life goes the way you want it to go? How are you attempting to be the god of your life?

Say the first commandment as a prayer and let God be God.
