Why begin your time with God with Praising Him? It sets the tone for our time with God. Praising God for who He is, reminds us of God’s identity and reinforces our understanding of who He is. As we praise Him, we become more aware of His power in the world and His presence in our lives. Beginning by praising God follows the examples found in the Bible. But, perhaps most importantly God is worthy of our praise!
Ideas for Praising God:
- Praise Him for what you know about Him. Acknowledge His characteristics and His names, but make it personal. For example, you can praise God through one of His characteristics: “Lord, You are all powerful. You have the power to keep the universe in order, the power to move mountains, the power to change peoples. . .the power to keep all Your promises and remain faithful to Your Word. If You have all that power, You certainly have the power to change me!”
- Praise Him by going through the alphabet, A to Z, and praise Him for His characteristics:
Lord, You are all-knowing (Psalm 147:5), all-powerful, all-loving. . .
You are builder of everything (Hebrews 3:4). . .
You are caring, compassionate (Psalm 145:9), and changeless (Hebrews 1:12). . .
You are the defender of widows (Psalm 68:5). . .
You are the eternal God (Deuteronomy 33:27), the everlasting God (Isaiah 40:28), the exalted God (Micah 6:6). . .
- Praise Him by praising His Name:
You are Abba, my Father (Romans 8:15). . .
You are the Holy One of Israel (Isaiah 12:6), Lord Almighty (Psalm 46:7). . .
You are the Word of God (Revelation 19:13), the Messiah (John 1:41), the great Shepherd (Hebrews 13:20). . .You are my Lord and Savior (2 Peter 3:18)
