And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. (NIV) 2 Corinthians 9:8
A good steward understands that God has entrusted to you all that you have and has assigned you to be His manager of those assets:
- The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. (NIV) Genesis 2:15
- And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (NIV) Colossians 3:17
- Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (NIV) Colossians 3:23-24 (See also Matthew 25:14-31 and Matthew 24:42-51)
A good steward understands that as God provides for you and prospers you that He does this so that you can share with others:
- The wages of the righteous bring them life, but the income of the wicked brings them punishment. (NIV) Proverbs 10:16
- And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. (NIV) 2 Corinthians 9:8
A good steward understands that Jesus sees all your gifts. . . the size, the frequency, and the motivation:
- Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything– all she had to live on.” (NIV) Mark 12:41-44
- For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have. (NIV) 2 Corinthians 8:12
- All who were willing, men and women alike, came and brought gold jewelry of all kinds: brooches, earrings, rings and ornaments. They all presented their gold as a wave offering to the LORD. 25 Every skilled woman spun with her hands and brought what she had spun– blue, purple or scarlet yarn or fine linen. (NIV) Exodus 35:22, 25
- All the Israelite men and women who were willing brought to the LORD freewill offerings for all the work the LORD through Moses had commanded them to do. (NIV) Exodus 35:29
- All the officials and all the people brought their contributions gladly, dropping them into the chest until it was full. (NIV) 2 Chronicles 24:10
