“It is not enough to be busy; so are the ants. The question is: what are we busy about?” (Henry David Thoreau)
Jesus replied with this story: “A man prepared a great feast and sent out many invitations. When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to tell the guests, ‘Come, the banquet is ready.’ But they all began making excuses.” (Luke 14:16-18a, NLT)
Excuse #1 – My Business
One said, ‘I have just bought a field and must inspect it. Please excuse me.’ (Luke 14:18b)
Excuse #2 – My Possessions
Another said, ‘I have just bought five pairs of oxen, and I want to try them out. Please excuse me.’ (Luke 14:19)
Excuse #3 – My Relationships
Another said, ‘I now have a wife, so I can’t come.’ (Luke 14:20)
