Walk about Zion, go around her, count her towers, consider well her ramparts, view her citadels, that you may tell of them to the next generation. (NIV) Psalm 48:12-13
It is possible that the Israelites made a procession around Jerusalem as an act of worship. The people may have walked around Jerusalem observing her defense system – “her towers,” “her ramparts,” and “her citadels.” The security of Jerusalem (symbolically expressed as Zion) was essential not only for the future of the nation, but also because the temple was in Jerusalem. The procession was to imprint upon the hearts and minds of the people the reality of the presence of the living Almighty God. . .and as a result, they were to go home and tell their children about God and His lovingkindness towards His people.
When have you taken a “journey” to reflect on the reality of the presence of the living Almighty God? How has God made a difference in your life? How has He imprinted a part of His character on your heart and mind? In what ways has He changed you? How has your outlook towards life changed since you began a relationship with Him?
When was the last time you told someone from the “next generation” how God has changed the quality of your life? Will you share with someone today about the reality of a relationship with the living Almighty God?
