From the time that Esther first came under Mordecai’s care, she had been obedient to his commands and listened to him, even after being elevated to the position of queen. Now as Queen Esther, she was careful to keep her Jewish nationality secret just as Mordecai had instructed. Her continued obedience to Mordecai becomes important in the plot of the story.
“During the time Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate, Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s officers who guarded the doorway, became angry and conspired to assassinate King Xerxes. But Mordecai found out about the plot and told Queen Esther, who in turn reported it to the king, giving credit to Mordecai. And when the report was investigated and found to be true, the two officials were hanged on a gallows.” Esther 2:21-23
Mordecai’s position at the gate represented some kind of duty or official position. He may have been appointed to this position by Esther to give him easier access to the royal quarters. It was here that Mordecai heard about the plot to kill King Xerxes. Somehow Mordecai got word to Esther about the plot. Queen Esther in turn relayed the information to the king, giving credit to Mordecai without mentioning their relationship. The entire event was recorded in the “book of the annals” (the official court records memorable events). But then Mordecai is forgotten by Xerxes. . . or so it seems.
Are you in a “forgotten” place right now? Nothing seems to be changing. Your efforts seem to be forgotten. Do not lose hope. God is at work! He is bringing His perfect plans into fruition. If you aren’t convinced of it just wait for more of Mordecai’s story!
